Cable Handling Equipment Rental for Offshore Cable Projects

Carousels, loading towers, tensioners and ancillary equipment, mobilised from PASSER in Alkmaar.

Cable handling equipment rental from PASSER LARS supports cable installation campaigns across offshore wind, oil and gas, and grid interconnector projects. Every item in the fleet is designed and manufactured in-house at our facilities in Norway, the Netherlands and Lithuania, then stationed at our rental base in Alkmaar for fast mobilisation across Europe and beyond.

Equipment is available for single-campaign hire, full project hire, or repeat call-off agreements. Mobilisation crews, supervising engineers and on-site technical support can be added to any rental, scoped to the equipment, the project and the team.

The Rental Fleet

Four equipment categories sit at the core of the fleet. Each can be rented individually or combined into a complete cable handling spread for a project.

Cable Carousels

Cable storage and transport carousels with capacities up to 7,000 tonnes.

  • Suitable for HVAC, HVDC, array, export, umbilical and flexible pipe scopes

  • Modular design for road and sea transport, with quayside assembly options

  • Compatible with PASSER loading towers, tensioners and infeed systems

  • Optional integration with the PASSER Basket Drive System (BDS)

  • DNV verification as standard

Loading Towers

Cable loading towers with tension capacities of 5, 10 and 15 tonnes.

  • Used for transferring cable between carousels, reels, vessels and storage

  • Adjustable height and tension settings to match cable specification

  • Mobile and skid-mounted configurations available

  • Hydraulic drive with full operator control

Tensioners

Cable tensioners with linear pull capacities of 15, 30, 45 and 60 tonnes.

  • Four-track and eight-track configurations depending on cable specification

  • Suitable for cable lay, transpooling and load-out operations

  • Adjustable pad settings for a range of cable diameters

  • Full data logging and tension monitoring

Ancillary Equipment

The fleet also includes the supporting equipment needed for a complete cable handling spread.

  • Chutes and idler arches

  • Winches and hold-back systems

  • Trackways and roller systems

  • Tower bases, tie-downs and sea-fastening kits

How Rental Works

Three rental structures cover most projects.

Campaign Hire

Short-term rental for a single cable lay or installation campaign, typically a few weeks or a few months in duration. Equipment ships fully tested with FAT documentation and operating manuals.

Project Hire

Longer-term rental for the duration of a defined project, including pre-mobilisation testing, mid-project maintenance and post-demobilisation refurbishment.

Call-Off Agreements

Framework agreements for repeat hire across multiple projects. Useful for contractors and cable manufacturers with ongoing offshore programmes who want priority allocation and pre-agreed commercial terms.

Each rental can be scoped with or without crew. Mobilisation engineers, supervising operators and on-site technical support are common additions, especially for first-time use of a particular piece of kit or for time-critical campaigns.

Rental Fleet Location

The rental fleet base is located near PASSER in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Our location gives the fleet direct access to the main North Sea project zones, with international shipping routes via the Port of Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
For projects further afield, the deep-water quays at our Klaipėda fabrication facility serve as a secondary mobilisation point, with direct sea access for heavy-lift load-outs to Asia, the Americas and Africa.

Equipment dispatched from either base ships with FAT documentation, lifting plans and sea-fastening drawings as standard.
