Reel Drive System

Reel drive systems enable efficient spooling and unspooling of rigid and flexible pipes, umbilicals, cables and other offshore products stored on offshore installation reels. The centre hub interface fits industry standard reels and can be adapted to customer specific requirements.

Functions

The Reel Drive system has three primary motions and is powered by a Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU). 

The three main motions are: 


Rotation
Two slewing gears with pinions drives a slewing bearing to rotate the reel adapter.

Lifting Vertical
Each tower holds two large cylinders for lifting the reel.

Horizontal Movement
Two cylinders, one on each side of the tower base moves the towers in the horizontal plane.
