Carousels for Cable Manufacturing and Storage

Built for the heaviest power cables, umbilicals and flexible pipes, with PASSER proprietary wheel technology that delivers up to 80,000 hours of operation between major maintenance.

PASSER cable production carousels and cable storage carousels are engineered for the most demanding HVAC and HVDC subsea cable plants. We partner with leading cable manufacturers across Europe, Asia, the United States, and other global markets, delivering carousel systems with capacities of up to 20,000 tonnes. Solutions are configured with split-design sections, fully tailored loading systems, and seamless integration into existing plant control environments. Advanced loading solutions include state-of-the-art operator cabins, with options for movable positioning or fully camera-based systems enabling remote monitoring and precise carousel control.

Every carousel is purpose-engineered to the client’s building layout, available space, and production flow. Each installation is fully adapted to its environment, reflecting the reality that no cable factory conforms to a standard footprint.

PASSER Proprietary Carousel Wheel Technology

A large carousel runs on hundreds of support wheels. Every one of them has to be maintained, and replaced over its life. For cable manufacturers running production lines around the clock, those wheels are one of the biggest sources of downtime and maintenance cost in the entire system.

PASSER has developed and validated a proprietary carousel support wheel that solves this problem. We are currently the only carousel manufacturer offering it.

Design highlights

  • Available in cambered and radius wheel configurations to suit different rail geometries
  • Fully adjustable in height and angle, which reduces alignment tolerances and structural requirements while ensuring optimal load distribution
  • Dual tapered roller bearings for high load capacity and durability
  • Sealed bearing arrangement for reliable operation in harsh environments
  • Robust monobloc structural design engineered for long-term fatigue resistance

Performance ratings

  • Static and dynamic load rating
  • Up to 80,000 hours of operational service life

Independently validated

  • Full-scale testing performed across more than 37 000 km of rolling distance
  • More than 23 million rolling cycles completed in testing with full load Equivalent lifetime under typical operating conditions of 65 years
  • No cracks, pitting, surface degradation or measurable deformation observed throughout the full test program
  • Independently verified through third-party laboratory testing, including ultrasonic and metallographic analysis

For cable manufacturers, this means longer maintenance intervals, reduced spare-part inventory, fewer production stoppages, and a wheel system you can specify with confidence in the design phase.
